How do I find a cookie business for sale?

First decide which kind of cookie business you want: a storefront, an online or delivery shop, a wholesale supplier to cafés, a franchise unit or a cookie dough brand. Each is listed and sold differently, so search by type, then ask what the sale includes, where the orders come from and who does the baking.

A search for a cookie business turns up very different things under one name. One listing is a mall-style shop with a counter, another is an online brand shipping boxes, and another is a baker supplying cafés. They run differently, need different skills, and sell differently.

Storefronts and franchise units

A cookie shop is usually listed alongside bakeries, cafés and dessert shops, so search all three. Franchise units are often listed through the brand or a broker. If you are looking at one, ask the seller how a buyer is approved by the franchisor, and ask your lawyer to review the franchise agreement before you commit. Whether the rights pass to you is a question for that agreement, not for the listing.

Online, delivery and dough businesses

Online cookie shops and cookie dough brands may sit under e-commerce, food or home-based categories. Ask where the orders come from, whether the website and social accounts transfer, and who owns the customer list. Ask how much of the business depends on one platform or one delivery partner. A brand that lives on a single account can be fragile, so read how it is actually set up.

Wholesale and café supply

A baker who sells to cafés and shops is a different purchase again. Ask which customers have standing orders, whether there are written supply arrangements, and what happens if a main customer leaves. Ask who does the baking and who deals with the customers, since a buyer who is neither baker nor salesperson will need to hire for both.
