How do I sell a burger restaurant?

Get the shop ready to hand over: write down the recipes and suppliers, list the equipment, sort out the lease, prepare to move delivery-app accounts and reviews to the buyer, and offer a handover period. Write down how the shop runs without you, so a buyer can see it.

Write your notes so that a stranger could run the shop from them. Buyers will ask the same questions again and again: what makes the burgers yours, who supplies them, what comes with the kitchen and how orders arrive. Answer those on paper before you list, and the conversations that follow stay short and calm.

Write down what is in your head

Put the recipes, sauce methods, prep schedules and portion sizes in a binder or shared file. List your suppliers with contacts and delivery days, and keep copies of any written terms. Decide with your lawyer what the sale will say about the recipes and menu names. This page on recipes in a restaurant sale explains why that matters.

Equipment, lease and staff

Make an equipment list showing what you own, what is leased and what is still being paid off. Read your lease and note who the landlord is and what it says about transfers. Tell your lawyer early, since the landlord’s consent often sets the timeline. Think about which staff you want to introduce to a buyer and when you will tell the team.

Delivery accounts, reviews and handover

Check whose name is on each delivery-app account, the review pages and the social media profiles. Ask each platform how a change of owner works. Then offer a handover period where you work beside the buyer on the grill and the ordering. Be clear with the buyer about how available you will be during that stretch. This page on keeping a franchise running while it is for sale applies here too.
