Should I buy an existing flower shop or open a new one?
An existing shop brings a location, wedding and event bookings, corporate standing orders, wholesaler accounts, designers and a cooler. A new shop gives you freedom over location and brand. Compare what you would have to build against what you would inherit, and ask which parts of the shop really transfer.
Florists often depend on relationships: with wholesalers, with designers and with customers who come back for every birthday and funeral. A purchase hands you some of those relationships at once. A new shop starts without any. Neither path is automatically better. The question is which risks you would rather carry, so list what you would gain and what you would give up either way.
What an existing shop can bring
A running shop may come with a walk-in location, a book of wedding and event work, standing orders from offices and funeral homes, accounts with wholesalers, trained designers and a working cooler. Ask which of these are in writing and which depend on the owner personally. Our page on what happens to wedding bookings when a florist is sold explains why event deposits need attention.
What a new shop gives you
Starting fresh lets you pick the location, the style and the way the shop works. You can design around online orders, events or deliveries from the start. You also face an empty order book, supplier terms you have not yet earned and a brand nobody knows. Think about how long you can run before the shop supports you.
How to compare the two
Write down what each path would ask of you in time, money and risk, with your accountant. Ask a lender what it would want to see in each case. Our list of what to check before buying a florist shows which parts of the shop would transfer to you.
