Single restaurants are not on offer

Anyone searching for how to buy one Taco Bell should start with what the franchisor’s Canadian page says: “Taco Bell’s focus is recruiting only area developer franchisees who have the capacity to build and manage multiple QSR units. Single units are not offered at this time.” Its ideal candidate has the “Capability to open 5+ restaurants” and the capacity to acquire experienced restaurant operators and to secure prime real estate, and the page says a franchisee “must either have restaurant experience or partner with an operator who has restaurant experience” (as published, read Nov 4, 2026). The page carries no date, so check with Taco Bell Canada whether that still holds.

What Taco Bell Canada publishes about cost

The same page gives an estimated total investment of $1MM–$1.6MM for one restaurant, “size dependent & excluding real property”, without naming a currency. The initial franchise fee is shown as $51,200 USD plus applicable taxes, marked as US CPI indexed and adjusted annually, so the figure moves each year. The ongoing royalty is 6% of gross sales and marketing is 4.7% of gross sales, managed by the Franchisee National Advertising Council, plus 1% for local store marketing. On net worth and liquid capital the page says only that “the financial requirements vary depending on the method of acquisition”, and it gives no term or training length.

Taco Bell in Canada, in its own words

The page says the brand started in Canada in 1979 with one restaurant in Ontario and has “over 170 Canadian units in eight provinces”, and describes a ten-year plan of adding 600 restaurants. It does not date either statement, so treat them as the franchisor’s own description and not a current count. Deavo had no Taco Bell listings on Nov 3, 2026. Whether a restaurant advertised by its owner can change hands, and to whom, may depend on the franchisor’s consent under that owner’s franchise agreement, so ask to see the transfer terms; see who has to approve a franchise resale.

Financing

Taco Bell Canada says it does not provide financing, though it supplies a list of banks and financing institutions that have expressed interest in lending to its franchisees. How franchise purchases are financed more generally is covered in can a franchise purchase be financed?

Franchise disclosure law

Seven provinces have a franchise disclosure statute: Ontario, British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and Saskatchewan, whose Act came into force on 30 June 2026. Each sets its own deadlines and exemptions. Under Ontario’s Arthur Wishart Act a franchisee may rescind, without penalty or obligation, no later than 60 days after receiving the disclosure document if it or a statement of material change came late or its contents did not meet the Act’s requirements, or no later than two years after entering into the franchise agreement if the franchisor never provided one. Where one applies, the disclosure document is the place to check the figures above against the franchisor’s current terms for the territory on offer; keep the date you receive it.

General information, not legal advice — franchise legislation differs by province and changes over time.
