Land Title and Survey Authority (LTSA)

The Land Title and Survey Authority of British Columbia (LTSA) is a corporation without share capital created by provincial statute. Its purposes include managing, operating and maintaining the land title and survey systems of British Columbia.

If a business sale in British Columbia includes land, or a lease or charge registered against land, the registry behind the paperwork is the LTSA’s. Ask your lawyer or notary to search the title, which shows the registered owners and what is registered against it.

What the Act says it is

Under the Land Title and Survey Authority Act, the Authority is established as a corporation without share capital and consists of a board of directors appointed under that Act. Section 4 sets its purposes, including managing, operating and maintaining the land title and survey systems of British Columbia. They also include necessary or advisable activities contemplated under the Land Owner Transparency Act related to the administration of that Act.

What a title search shows

The LTSA says a title search is a record issued by the land title office, generated from the land title register at a specific point in time. A title lists the registered owners, the legal description, the parcel identifier, and the charges, liens and interests registered against it. The LTSA says it cannot answer questions about the information on a title or research it for you. This entry covers British Columbia only; check the registry where the land is.
