Teaser
A teaser is a one- or two-page anonymised summary of a business for sale, circulated to prospective buyers before any confidentiality agreement is signed. Its only job is to let a buyer decide whether the opportunity is worth signing an NDA to learn more.
A teaser is a filter, not a sales document. Written well, it attracts buyers who fit the size and sector and repels those who do not — which saves both sides the time of an NDA and a meeting that was never going to lead anywhere.
What a good teaser contains
- Sector, general geography and how long the business has operated
- Revenue and earnings, usually as a range
- Two or three genuine strengths — recurring contracts, a strong team, a defensible position
- Broad terms: asking price range, whether the seller will transition, whether property is included
