Do Etsy reviews and followers transfer when I buy an Etsy shop business?
Do not count on it. Ratings, favourites and audience are tied to the platform login, which the terms may not let you take over. Ask the platform rather than rely on a promise, and judge how much of the pull lives in assets that can move: email list, social accounts and repeat customers.
A shop with a long run of good reviews looks like a head start. That reputation is a large part of what a buyer is attracted to, and it is also the part most tied to the platform. If the account does not come with the sale, the reviews and followers may stay behind. So the useful question is not whether they transfer, but how much of the shop’s pull you can keep without them.
Where the reputation lives
Reviews, favourites and followers are attached to the Etsy account. Etsy’s terms and help pages say what can happen to an account when a business is sold. Read them, then ask Etsy directly and keep the reply. A seller’s promise that everything will carry over is not a substitute, and the seller may not be able to deliver it.
Separate the pull that can move
Ask the seller where customers actually come from. Some arrive through Etsy search. Others come back by email, follow the brand on social media, or reorder directly. The second group may be able to move with the business. Ask for a breakdown of new versus repeat customers and for the traffic sources, and check them against the shop’s own reports.
Plan a relaunch on a new shop
If you must start a fresh shop, you begin with no reviews. Think about how you would rebuild trust: a clear introduction to existing customers, the same product photography and designs, and a message that links the new shop to the brand people already know. Ask the seller to help with that handover for an agreed period.
