How do I check a roofing company’s reputation before buying it?

Read the online reviews and how the company replied to the poor ones, call homeowners and builders who have used it, check the manufacturer certification standing, and look at callback and complaint records. Then ask how much of the good name belongs to the owner personally and would leave with them.

A roofing company sells a job that its customers cannot easily inspect. They trust the name. That is why reputation deserves its own checks. Do not rely on the seller’s own account. Collect several outside views, then compare them with what the records show.

Reviews and the replies to them

Read the reviews on every site where the company appears, not only the top ones. Note what customers praise and what they complain about, and whether the complaints repeat. Look at how the company answered the unhappy ones. A calm reply that fixed the problem says more than a perfect score. Ask the seller to explain anything that looks odd.

References and manufacturer standing

Ask for homeowners and builders you may call, and also pick a few names yourself from past invoices if the seller agrees. Ask each whether the work was finished on time and whether problems were put right. If the company holds a certification from a shingle or membrane manufacturer, ask the manufacturer or the seller to confirm that it is in good standing.

Callbacks, complaints and the owner’s name

Ask for a record of callbacks, warranty claims and written complaints, and how each was settled. Then ask who the customers trust: the company or the owner. If builders call the owner’s cell phone, the goodwill may leave with him or her. A handover period and introductions to key accounts can help, and the due diligence steps apply here too.
