How do I show fleet and dealership accounts when selling my auto glass shop?

List each fleet and dealership account with who deals with it, how long it has lasted, how it is billed and whether a written agreement exists. Be honest about handshake arrangements. Decide with your lawyer when to tell each customer, and leave the transfer terms of any contract to the lawyer.

Commercial accounts are often what a buyer most wants to understand. A fleet that sends vehicles every month or a dealership that calls the same shop first is a source of work a buyer will want to see in writing. Your task is to present those accounts clearly and honestly, without overselling relationships that depend on you personally.

Document each account

Build a simple schedule with one line per account. Include the customer name, how long you have worked together, what you do for them, how they are billed and how they pay. Add the name of the person at your shop who looks after the account. A clear schedule saves questions.

Written agreements and handshake work

Some accounts are under signed agreements and others run on habit. Say which is which. Hand your lawyer every written agreement so they can read what it says about assignment, notice and ending the relationship. A buyer will want to know the difference, so say it early.

Who knows each customer

If the owner is the only contact, a buyer will worry that the account leaves with you. Consider introducing a manager or technician to the key contacts well before a sale, and offer a handover period. Buyers often feel more comfortable when the relationship already runs through more than one person.

When to tell the customers

Timing matters. Telling customers too early can unsettle them, and telling them too late can look careless. Talk with your lawyer about when each customer should hear, and who should say it. Keep the rest of the process confidential until then. For related steps, see what costs come with selling a repair shop.
