Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) is a program of Employment and Social Development Canada under the Youth Employment and Skills Strategy. It provides wage subsidies to support employers who create summer work experience for young people. A buyer meets it when a seller’s staff plan includes student positions that depend on the subsidy.
Who it covers
The program’s applicant guide says not-for-profit employers, public sector employers and private sector organizations under a full-time employee cap can apply, and that the amount of the subsidy depends on the type of employer. The subsidy is tied to the provincial or territorial minimum wage, which makes minimum wage the reference point for what it covers. The program publishes a list of employers approved for funding.
What to ask in a sale
- Whether the seller has an approved or pending application, and for which summer
- Whether the funding agreement can be assigned, or whether the buyer must apply in its own name; ask the program
