Employer portal and offer of employment number
The Employer Portal is IRCC’s online system where an employer submits an offer of employment for a foreign worker. After it is submitted, the employer gets an offer of employment number and must give it to the worker, who needs it to apply for the work permit.
A buyer who plans to hire a foreign worker after closing may meet this step. IRCC says that in most cases, to hire through the International Mobility Program, an employer must pay the employer compliance fee and create and submit an offer of employment form through the portal.
How it works
After the employer submits an offer of employment, IRCC says it gets an offer of employment number to give the worker. IRCC’s work permit guide tells the worker to make sure the employer provides the number before the permit application is submitted. IRCC also says some employers don’t need to use the portal or are exempt from the fee, so the exemptions on its page matter.
What to ask
- Which of the seller’s workers hold employer-specific permits tied to this kind of offer
- Which entity will employ them after closing
- Whether an exemption applies, using IRCC’s own list
If hiring workers is a closing term, see a condition to hire the seller’s employees; see also employer-specific work permit.
