How do I sell a window tint shop?
To sell a tint shop, show buyers a business that runs without you installing every job. Separate your own labour from the shop’s results, document automotive and architectural film work apart, list dealer and fleet accounts, line up supplier and software transfers, and list where serious buyers will see the shop.
Most tint shops are sold by an owner who is also the best installer. Buyers know it, and the first thing they will ask is what happens to the work when you step away. The strongest preparation is to make that answer easy to see in your records. Start months before you list, so the paperwork is calm and your numbers tell a consistent story.
Separate your own work from the business
Write down which jobs you install yourself and which your staff do. If you are in the bay every day, a buyer will have to hire someone to replace you, and they will want that cost understood. Train a second installer if you can, and keep a record of who did what. A shop where the team already does most of the work is easier to hand over, and it reduces the buyer’s worry about the first season.
Show the revenue by type of work
Many shops do both automotive and architectural film, and the two behave differently: one is driven by dealers and drivers, the other by property owners and contractors. Keep the revenue for each apart, with the main accounts named in a private schedule. Note which accounts are written agreements and which are habits, and say honestly which relationships are with you personally.
Prepare suppliers, software and buyers
Tell your film supplier early that a sale may come, and ask what it needs to approve a new owner. Check the plotter, the pattern software and any lease or financing on equipment. When you are ready, use a listing platform, speak to your suppliers and approach installers who might want their own shop. Ask any broker or buyer to sign a confidentiality agreement before they see financial detail.
