What should I check before buying a wildlife removal business?

Check where the calls come from, how much work is exclusion and repair rather than removal, any open warranties and callbacks, how skilled the technicians are at attic and roof work, the vehicles and equipment, and the online reviews. Ask your lawyer about permits.

A wildlife removal company is a service business built on trust in people’s homes. Customers call in a hurry, often at a bad moment, and judge the company on whether the animals stay gone. That makes the quality of past work the thing to look at first. Ask the seller to show you the work, not only the totals.

Where the calls come from

Ask what share of jobs come from homeowners, property managers and referrals from pest control firms. Ask how customers find the company: search, directories, word of mouth. A business that depends on one referral partner or one listing is more exposed. Check the reviews and online listings, and ask who will control them after the sale.

Removal versus exclusion and repair

Taking animals out is one job. Sealing the entry points and repairing damage is another, usually larger. Ask the seller to show how the work divides. Then ask about warranties on past exclusion jobs, how many are still open and how often customers call back. A buyer takes on those promises. Your lawyer can explain how.

People, vehicles and equipment

Ask who does the field work, how they were trained and whether they can handle attic and roof jobs safely. Check the vehicles, traps, ladders and tools, and ask what is owned and what is leased. Insurance and claims history matter here too, so ask your insurance broker what to look for.

Permits and similar businesses

Permits and rules on trapping and handling animals are questions for your lawyer, who can tell you what applies and whether it carries over. Pest control is a related but different trade, so do not assume the same checks apply. Our page on what to check before buying an independent junk removal business covers general service-business questions.
