Buying an existing Boston Pizza

Boston Pizza’s franchising pages do not say it sells existing restaurants; they describe new restaurants, conversions of other restaurants and hotel or non-traditional sites (as published, read Oct 22, 2026). A Boston Pizza resale on Deavo is advertised by a seller or broker at the seller’s price, and whether the franchisor must approve the buyer, charge a fee or require retraining depends on the franchise agreement.

Boston Pizza is a trademark of its owner. Deavo is not affiliated with or endorsed by Boston Pizza or Boston Pizza International Inc.; the name identifies the businesses listed for sale. Figures are quoted from the franchisor’s own pages and are not verified by Deavo.

What Boston Pizza says about existing restaurants

Nothing on the pages read on Oct 22, 2026 offers a particular restaurant for sale or describes a resale programme. The “restaurant conversions” page is about something else: converting a non-Boston Pizza restaurant or hospitality business into a Boston Pizza, which Boston Pizza says “can offer reduced investment, in comparison to a traditional build-out”. The home page describes a “BPmatch” programme that matches partners with different profiles; it is not a resale listing service either. That is a statement about those pages, not about whether the franchisor will approve a sale.

What a Boston Pizza listing on Deavo is

The Boston Pizza cards below are advertised by sellers or brokers, not by the franchisor. Each asking price is the advertiser’s own number, and it is not Boston Pizza’s $2M-$2.8M traditional investment range. Confirm a restaurant is still available before you rely on a listing. An asking price is what the advertiser wrote, not a valuation.

Questions to put to the franchisor and seller

Ask for the franchise agreement’s transfer clause and read it. Ask whether the franchisor must approve you as the buyer and what that approval involves (who has to approve a franchise resale), whether a transfer fee is payable, whether you would have to complete Boston Pizza’s training (does a resale require retraining?), and whether the restaurant must be renovated to a current standard (do I have to renovate a franchise resale?). A required renovation changes the real price.

Disclosure before you sign

In Ontario and British Columbia — the provinces with a franchise statute where Boston Pizza is currently listed — the statute, where disclosure applies, requires that the prospective franchisee receive a disclosure document at least 14 days before the earlier of signing the franchise agreement or any other agreement relating to the franchise and paying any consideration relating to the franchise to the franchisor or its associate. Those statutes contain exemptions, and whether a sale by an existing franchisee falls within one depends on the facts; what disclosure a resale buyer gets explains the rule. This is general information, not legal advice; ask a franchise lawyer before you sign.
