Boston Pizza publishes three formats with different capital rules, so each is its own row. A row marked “Not published” means the figure was not on the page we read — not that there is no such term.
What the figures include
Boston Pizza publishes the investment range and capital requirement for its traditional format. It separately says that interior fit-out for a new restaurant can range from $1.5-$2M, including soft costs, and that construction of the base building, if required, would be an additional expense. It adds that estimates vary with marketplace, market conditions, size of restaurant and time of year. A resale is priced by the seller and is not the franchisor’s build estimate. Working capital is not broken out on the pages read.
Conversions and hotel sites
For a restaurant conversion and for a hotel or non-traditional site, Boston Pizza gives the same $60,000 fee but states required liquid capital as 35% of total investment and net worth required as $1.5M – $2.0M, and publishes no total investment figure for either. It says conversion costs are set site by site, depending in part on the size, age and condition of the existing building.
Royalty and advertising
Boston Pizza states the royalty and co-op advertising rates on its traditional page. In Ontario and British Columbia, where disclosure applies and subject to each Act’s exceptions, the prospective franchisee must receive the disclosure document at least 14 days before the earlier of signing the franchise agreement or any other agreement relating to the franchise and paying any consideration relating to the franchise to the franchisor or its associate, so check each rate against it. See what disclosure a resale buyer gets.
Financing a Boston Pizza purchase
Boston Pizza says its development team helps with “securing financing” and names no lender programme. For the financing routes to ask about, see can a franchise purchase be financed?
