What Fatburger Canada says about itself

Fatburger Canada’s franchising page says the first Fatburger in Canada opened in 2005 in Vancouver, that the brand came from Los Angeles, and that there are “about 70 locations in Canada”, found “mostly in the West Coast from BC to AB to MB, SK and even the Northwest Territories”, that it opened in Barrie, Ontario, in 2025, with “more Ontario locations underway” (as published, read Oct 22, 2026). It also says it is “Canadian-owned and operated”. These are the franchisor’s statements about its own business; Deavo has not verified them.

Buying an existing Fatburger

The page we read does not say whether Fatburger Canada sells or brokers existing restaurants, and Deavo has too few current Fatburger listings to say how its resales usually work. Each listing card shows who advertised it and what the advertiser asks. An asking price is the advertiser’s number, not a valuation. If the seller is a current franchisee, the franchisor’s consent to the transfer is a question to ask early — see who has to approve a franchise resale and what a transfer fee is.

Training and opening

Fatburger Canada lists its direct support as “Extensive initial training, including on the job experience training”, ongoing operation and training support, and marketing and advertising support (as published, read Oct 22, 2026). The page gives no length for the training, so it is not recorded here as a figure. Whether a resale buyer repeats it is a question to ask Fatburger Canada — does buying a resale require retraining?

Financing

Fatburger Canada says it has “relationships with 3 national banks: TD (Toronto Dominion), BMO (Bank of Montreal) & RBC (Royal Bank of Canada)” and that “each Franchisee is required to qualify for financing on their own merit.” For how Canadian franchise purchases are financed in general, see can a franchise purchase be financed?

Where Fatburger is expanding

Fatburger Canada’s page lists “locations available” in Whitehorse, Fort St. John, Mississauga, Belvedere in Calgary, Desrochers in Edmonton and “All Ontario”, and says it intends to “further introduce Fatburger to Eastern Canada and the Maritime provinces”. Deavo’s Fatburger listings on Oct 20, 2026 were in Alberta (1), British Columbia (1) and Ontario (1). The areas are covered on the locations page.

Disclosure law where Fatburger is listed

All three provinces with Fatburger listings have franchise disclosure statutes. Late or missing disclosure can give a franchisee a statutory right to rescind, within deadlines each Act sets — in Ontario, for example, no later than 60 days after receiving the disclosure document, or no later than two years after entering into the franchise agreement if the franchisor never provided it (Arthur Wishart Act, s.6). Keep the date you receive the document, and check the costs and recurring fees in it. Fatburger’s page mentions a “first look at the FDD” (franchise disclosure document) for those who apply; the document itself governs over the page.
