Kelsey’s franchise training and support

Kelsey’s says a new franchisee will “complete 12 weeks of hands-on immersive training inside one of our corporate-owned restaurants in Canada”, with on-site support around the grand opening. Its franchising page says each franchisee is paired with a dedicated Business Development Manager (as published, read Oct 22, 2026).

The 12-week programme

On its franchise journey page Kelsey’s lists training and pre-opening as the step after site selection and build-out. It says the 12 weeks are spent inside one of its corporate-owned restaurants in Canada and cover day-to-day operations, “including guest service, food prep, staffing, inventory, and POS systems”. It also promises on-site support from its training and operations team “in the days leading up to and during your grand opening”. The page does not say where the training restaurants are, whether the 12 weeks are full-time, or what they cost.

Ongoing support

Kelsey’s franchising page says each franchisee is “paired with a dedicated Business Development Manager and an experienced franchisee mentor”. Recipe’s FAQ lists training highlights that run from frontline to management: menu knowledge, staffing, scheduling, inventory and financial oversight, food safety, hands-on restaurant experience and online modules. It adds that training continues after opening, delivered virtually, in person and on demand. These are Recipe’s descriptions; none is a promise about outcomes, and the franchise agreement is where obligations are written down.

What a resale buyer should ask

The programme above is written for a franchise partner opening a new restaurant. The pages read do not say whether someone who buys an existing Kelsey’s completes all of it, part of it or none. Ask the franchisor in writing, before you commit, whether training is required of a resale buyer, how long it takes, who pays and whether you could be working elsewhere while you do it. Does buying a resale require retraining? looks at that question. Training can also be a condition of the franchisor’s consent to the transfer, so ask about it alongside who has to approve a franchise resale.

Disclosure and the agreement

Where franchise disclosure applies — Ontario for the current Kelsey’s listings — the disclosure document is the place to confirm what training and support the franchisor is bound to provide, since a webpage is marketing and the agreement is the contract. Recipe itself says exact fees and terms are in the franchise disclosure document specific to each brand.
