Where Pet Valu is expanding

Pet Valu’s “Current Opportunities” page, in an archived copy captured 7 February 2026, said it was actively expanding in eight provinces, from British Columbia to Nova Scotia, and listed named locations. Availability changes. Deavo’s Pet Valu listings on Nov 3, 2026 were in Alberta (4), New Brunswick (4), British Columbia (3), Nova Scotia (2), Manitoba (1), Prince Edward Island (1) and Saskatchewan (1).

Where Pet Valu said it was expanding

The page says “We are actively expanding in this province” for British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia. For Newfoundland and Labrador it says “We are not currently expanding in this market”. For Yukon, the Northwest Territories, Nunavut and Quebec it says it has “not yet expanded our franchise operations to this market”. Pet Valu’s annual filing, a separate document, mentions Chico franchisees in Québec, so the two do not describe Québec in the same way; they concern different banners and pages, and this page does not reconcile them. The list is a snapshot from the capture date, and availability changes without notice.

The locations it listed, as of February 2026

British Columbia: Dawson Creek, Fort St. John, Kelowna, Langley, Merritt, Nanaimo and Vancouver (West Broadway). Alberta: Calgary (Evanston and Meredith), Edmonton (West Henday), Hinton, Grande Prairie, Slave Lake, Lethbridge and Whitecourt. Saskatchewan: Estevan, North Battleford and Warman. Manitoba: The Pas. New Brunswick: Atholville, Edmundston, Grand Falls, Moncton, Oromocto, St. Stephen, Shediac, Sussex, Tracadie-Sheila and Woodstock. Prince Edward Island: Stratford and Summerside. Nova Scotia: Antigonish, Bridgewater (two), New Glasgow and Windsor. Ontario was marked as expanding, but the copy shows no locations under it.

A listed town is not a signed site

The page asks the reader to “click on a location below for more details” or request an information package. Each location has its own page on Pet Valu’s site; a later location page, for Comox, British Columbia (not on the February list), was archived in April 2026 and carries the cost text on the costs and fees page. The filing says applicants may apply to an existing store opportunity or “more generally express interest in a particular community or region”, and that Pet Valu uses expressed interest to prioritize its real estate work. It also says the selected operator must live within an acceptable driving distance of the location.

Where Deavo has Pet Valu listings

Deavo’s Pet Valu listings on Nov 3, 2026 were in Alberta (4), New Brunswick (4), British Columbia (3), Nova Scotia (2), Manitoba (1), Prince Edward Island (1) and Saskatchewan (1). All 16 are Pet Valu’s own advertisements for new locations, not stores that a franchisee is selling. They come from advertisements on other websites, so neither Deavo’s list nor Pet Valu’s page is a complete inventory of stores, and a province on one and not the other is not a contradiction. The brand page explains the listings.

Franchise law in the listed provinces

six of the seven provinces with Pet Valu listings have franchise disclosure statutes. Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and Saskatchewan, and Ontario, which also appears on Pet Valu’s list, each have a franchise statute (cited below), so a buyer there should ask for the franchise disclosure document and keep the date it arrives. Each statute has its own exemptions and deadlines, and a franchise lawyer in the store’s province can say which applies. See what disclosure a resale buyer gets. This page records what Pet Valu published and does not say whether a town suits you.
