Buying an existing INS Market

INS Market’s franchising page does not say whether it sells or approves resales of existing stores (read Oct 22, 2026). Deavo has 13 INS Market listings, written by sellers or brokers. Whether a store is a franchised unit, and whether INS Market must approve the buyer, are questions to put to INS Market and the seller before you commit.

What INS Market says about existing stores

Nothing, on the pages we read. The franchising page describes opening a store: location acquisition through its “dedicated Real Estate department”, construction and design, equipment procurement, and training (as published, read Oct 22, 2026). It names no stores for sale and no resale process. Its Available Locations page lists 15 sites with an address, size and type, but does not say whether any of them is a store an existing franchisee wants to sell. This page exists because Deavo carries 13 INS Market listings, not because INS Market says it sells existing units.

The listings on Deavo

The INS Market cards below are listings written by sellers or the brokers acting for them, and an asking price is what the advertiser wrote, not a valuation and not an INS Market figure. INS Market is not a party to the listing. Ask the seller for the lease, the equipment list and the sales history, and ask whether the store is a franchised unit or operated by someone else, since the answer decides whether a franchise transfer is involved at all. Deavo’s listings on Oct 20, 2026 were in Ontario (10), Alberta (1), British Columbia (1) and Quebec (1).

If the franchisor approves the buyer

If the store is a franchised unit, ask to see the transfer clause in the franchise agreement before you commit. Who has to approve a franchise resale explains the two approvals that run on separate tracks. Ask what the transfer fee is, whether you must complete training (does a resale require retraining?), and whether the store must be renovated before or after closing (do I have to renovate a franchise resale?). Also ask whether the approximately $90,000+ in liquid assets that INS Market lists for new franchisees applies to you as a buyer of an existing store.

Disclosure before you sign

Deavo’s INS Market listings are in Ontario, Alberta, British Columbia and Quebec. Ontario’s Arthur Wishart Act (Franchise Disclosure), 2000, section 5, requires a franchisor to provide a prospective franchisee with a disclosure document that the franchisee receives “not less than 14 days” before the earlier of signing the franchise agreement or any other agreement relating to the franchise, or paying any consideration relating to the franchise. Among the exemptions in section 5(7), clause (a) covers “the grant of a franchise by a franchisee” if several conditions all hold, including that the grant “is not effected by or through the franchisor”. Section 5(8) says a grant is not effected by or through the franchisor merely because the franchisor has a right, exercisable on reasonable grounds, to approve or disapprove it, or because a transfer fee must be paid to the franchisor in an amount set out in the franchise agreement or not exceeding its reasonable actual costs of processing the grant. Whether a given sale falls inside the exemption depends on its facts, so put the question to a franchise lawyer before you sign. See what disclosure a resale buyer gets.
