Two figures, both as published

Two Recipe pages give different numbers. The East Side Mario’s franchising page answers “What are the franchise costs for an East Side Mario’s?” with a total investment of $1,400,000 - $1,600,000 and $560K -$640K in cash required. Recipe’s franchise investments page, a table covering all its brands, lists East Side Mario’s at $1.1M - $2.8M with a minimum cash contribution of $350,000 - $850,000, and Recipe’s FAQ says investment levels vary by concept and by whether the site is a new build, a conversion or a non-traditional format. The pages do not explain the difference, and this page does not choose between them. Ask the franchisor which applies to the opportunity in front of you.

The low end of Recipe’s full-service range

Recipe’s FAQ says a full-service restaurant “starts from $1.1M” and that the minimum cash contribution starts from $350,000 for full-service restaurants. In the all-brands table, East Side Mario’s is the full-service concept whose range begins at both of those floors. The brand’s own page, at $1,400,000 - $1,600,000, sits inside that wider range rather than at its bottom. Neither page says what a restaurant at the low end looks like, which is a question for the franchising team.

Routes East Side Mario’s lists

East Side Mario’s says it offers “franchise partnership opportunities for both new restaurants as well as existing restaurant sales”, and lists five aims it can match: to own and operate your own restaurant, operate with partners, grow into multi-unit operations, convert your current restaurant, or become an investor (read Oct 22, 2026). It also invites independent owners to talk to a conversion specialist, and Recipe’s investments page says a conversion offers “faster setup, reduced construction cost and proven location potential”. No page prices those routes separately. Ask which published figure, if either, applies to the route you are considering, and remember that an existing restaurant’s price is set by its seller.

Royalty, advertising and opening costs

Recipe’s FAQ says royalty and advertising fund rates “may vary depending on the specific concept”, and that a full breakdown of pre-opening costs is in the franchise disclosure document; the rates were not in the page text read. The Kelsey’s costs page goes through that FAQ, which is written for all of Recipe’s brands. Ontario, the one province with East Side Mario’s listings, has a franchise disclosure statute. See what disclosure a resale buyer gets, and for funding routes, can a franchise purchase be financed?

What East Side Mario’s listings on Deavo ask

No asking-price figure is published for this brandDeavo lists 6 East Side Mario's listings, 3 with an asking price, but fewer than 15 distinct resales remain once franchisor new-store openings and the same store advertised on several sites are set aside. Deavo publishes a figure only where at least 15 listings stand behind it. The listings themselves are on the East Side Mario's brand page.

Published initial fees of other brands on Deavo

The table holds the initial fee each other franchisor publishes for Canada on its own site, read Oct 22, 2026 or earlier. East Side Mario’s has no row, because neither Recipe page read gives an initial fee. An initial fee is only one line of the cost; set it beside total investment and cash required.
